This week we had a visiting designer, Brad Vetter, come to the classroom and teach a design workshop. I was really excited about this because I am a huge fan of his work. Every poster is so well designed it's unbelievable. Learning about the letterpress was a super great experience, I felt like I lacked knowledge about how something analog like a letterpress works. Brad explained the whole process and how he created his designs with a combination of letterpress techniques and digital alterations. When we began the actual workshop I was having fun laying out the type and configuring it in different ways. My partner Alex and I made two different designs to go in the blank spot. When actually pressing the letters, it was hard to keep the letters stable, even with the magnets. This was likely because we chose a wonky-type configuration with slants. I would have liked to print again because of the lack of transfer we got. When putting it in the RISO, I felt like we could have better aligned it into the blank spot to see more of our design. Overall, I enjoyed the process and the work Brad creates, but the lack of perfection was hard for me to overcome.
